The capacity of a Li/SOCl2 cell depends on the masses of the lithium anode, carbon cathode, and thionyl chloride present in the cell. Optimum capacity is achieved by correctly balancing the amounts of these materials relative to each other. In a properly optimized cell, > 90% of the theoretical capacity can be realized at the nominal discharge rate for a given cell. (See Rate Capability Li/SOCl2 Cells).
