We recommend the following storage conditions and depassivation methods;
- Fresh and partially discharged cells and battery packs should be stored in a controlled atmosphere out of direct sun light. The storage temperature should be as low as possible, preferably 20°C (68°F) or less.
- Li/SOCl2 cells should not be depassivated by constant power applications. Li/SOCl2 cells must be depassivated with a resistive load or constant current.
- Depassivation of Li/SOCl2 cells and battery packs should be done at current densities of approximately 1.0 mA/cm2 for any given cell. Depassivation is complete when the cell reaches a nominal closed circuit voltage for the current being applied. For recommended depassivation rates for a particular cell, please contact a SWE engineer.
We hope this document has answered questions about Li/SOCl2 cells. However, since no document can address every question, we have a staff of highly skilled engineers to assist with problems and applications. Please feel free to contact us for assistance with your technical and applications problems.
